Recent history and current state of the region: rise of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan; Pakistan's government, military, and mullahs; U.S. intervention in Afghanistan, its relationship with Pakistan, and its policy shift toward India; regional problems and opportunities amongst neighboring countries; and the economic and political rise of India.
