Women's participation in the civic and political life of their communities is an important factor in economic development. This study will examine the dynamics of governance in Mexico’s indigenous regions, specifically Chiapas, and the ways in which women participate in collective decisionmaking and influence the distribution and access to public goods and services in the community; the association between Oportunidades and women’s decision-making role in the provisions of public goods; and the effects on health and educational outcomes.
