BP's chief scientist discusses secure, sustainable energy in Drell Lecture
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsSteven E. Koonin, chief scientist for BP in London, gave an address titled "Energy, Environment, Security: Can We Have It All?" at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center. The talk, free and open to the public, was this year's Drell Lecture, hosted by Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.

in the news: Stanford Report on March 14, 2007Delivering CISAC's Drell Lecture March 8, New York Times reporter Thom Shanker shared service members' views of the Iraq war and combat readiness. In a talk titled "The Wars on Three Fronts: Iraq, the Pentagon and Main Street," Shanker drew on Pentagon sources and comments from Iraq war veterans as he spoke to an audience of more than 200 people in the Tresidder Oak Lounge.

New York Times correspondent to speak on war's 'three fronts'
Thom Shanker, national security and foreign policy correspondent for the New York Times, will give this year's Drell Lecture, titled "The Wars on Three Fronts: Iraq, the Pentagon, and Main Street," Mar. 8 at 4 p.m. in the Oak Lounge at Stanford University's Tresidder Memorial Union. The talk, hosted by CISAC, is free and open to the public.

Iraq dominates debate at CISAC's Drell Lecture
in the news: Stanford Report on December 13, 2005The Iraq war has been waged with arrogance and confusion by the Bush Administration, the Rev. J. Bryan Hehir said after delivering CISAC's annual Drell Lecture Dec. 6. In his talk, "The Politics and Ethics of Nonproliferation," Hehir analyzed tensions between nuclear nonproliferation efforts and respect for state sovereignty. Afterward, questions from the audience focused on the Iraq war.

CISAC 2004 Drell lecturer wins Nobel peace prize
A year after delivering CISAC's Drell Lecture, Mohamed ElBaradei has won the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. He and the International Atomic Energy Agency share the renowned prize "for their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes."
