Scott D. Sagan is the Caroline S.G. Munro Professor of Political Science, co-director of Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation, and a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute. His most recent publications include "Shared Responsibility for Nuclear Disarmament" in the fall 2009 issue of Daedalus and "The Case for No-First Use" in the June 2009 issue of Survival. Benjamin Valentino is Associate Professor of Government at Dartmouth College. His most recent book is Final Solutions: Mass Killing and Genocide in the Twentieth Century (Cornell University Press, 2004). In this presentation, Sagan and Valentino will present findings from an original survey experiment examining the American public’s attitudes toward the use of nuclear weapons and seek to explain the underlying causes of these opinions.
