Congressional commission on the strategic posture of the United States issues final report

in the news: United States Institute of Peace on May 6, 2009

Bipartisan group headed by CISAC's William Perry concludes that nuclear dangers can be reduced if the U.S. pursues a comprehensive strategy centered on deterrence and diplomacy. The report says "the threat of nuclear Armageddon has largely receded" but the proliferation of nuclear weapons and fissile materials is dangerously close to a "tipping point."
