Appeared in The New York Times, May 24, 2012

The Obama Administration has nominated Allison Macfarlane to chair America’s top nuclear safety watchdog, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). White House Spokesman Clark Stevens hailed her as a “highly regarded expert” and Senator Harry Reid of Nevada called her “eminently qualified” to lead the Commission.

Dr. Macfarlane was a fellow at CISAC from 1997 to 1998 and is a current associate professor of Environmental Science and Policy at George Mason University. She served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future until January 2012 and has been an instrumental voice in nuclear safety, security, and environmental policy.
