India's addiction to coal

Researcher Jeremy Carl and PESD affiliate David Victor are quoted in a two-part article series on coal in India, "India's Roaring Economy is Hitched to a Galloping Addiction to Coal" and "India's Future Energy Business Plan -Shop the World for More Coal."  The majority of India's electricity come from coal-burning plants and the country's demand for power has surpassed its supply.  Despite having the largest mining company in the world, India has become one of the largest importers of coal and must still secure more of it-- the demand for coal will increase with India's rising electricity needs.  The articles are featured in the New York Times and ClimateWire.
