Research Interests
HIV/AIDS prevention and programs, particularly in Russia and the former Soviet Union; women and prostitution in Russia; the role of interpreters in healthcare settings
Cristina Galvin is a researcher at CHP/PCOR who is working with core faculty member Doug Owens and associate Margaret Brandeau on their project investigating the cost-effectiveness of programs aimed at preventing HIV infection in Russia and the former Soviet Union.
She has coordinated and gathered/analyzed data for several research projects dealing with HIV/AIDS in Russia and the former Soviet Union, including projects for the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars (Washington, D.C.), the Imperial College of Medicine (London), and Population Services International (Russia). She also has extensive experience serving as a Russian/English interpreter for the above projects as well as others. Galvin received an MA in European studies from Trinity College (Dublin), an MSc in Russian/public health from Edinburgh University (UK), and an MA in interpreting and translation studies with a Russian/English focus, from Leeds University (UK).
She is fluent in Russian and also speaks some German, Irish, French and Spanish.
