Smita Nayak, MD was a CHP/PCOR trainee participating in the VA Ambulatory Care Practice and Research Training Fellowship Program. She is a general internist who is interested in quality improvement research, cost-effectiveness research, and meta-analysis. She has a particular interest in osteoporosis. Her work at CHP/PCOR included a meta-analysis of the accuracy of calcaneal ultrasound in osteoporosis screening. She also worked on a systematic review of hypertension quality improvement strategies, prepared for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, by the Stanford-UCSF Evidence-based Practice Center. She previously conducted clinical research involving quality of care in nursing homes, and basic science research on visual system physiology. She received a BS in neuroscience, magna cum laude with honors, from Brown University, and an MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif.
