health care quality, particularly quality measurement and timeliness of care

Ellen Schultz is a project coordinator at CHP/PCOR working on several projects related to quality of health care.  With members of the CHP/PCOR AHRQ Quality Indicators team, she is helping validate quality indicators for a broad range of health conditions.  She is also examining hospital readmissions within California.  With faculty fellow Michael Gould she has focused on quality of care for patients with known or suspected lung cancer.  She has investigated timeliness of lung cancer care within the VA and use of staging tests in patients with lung cancer.   She is collaborating with the VA Office of Quality and Performance to develop quality indicators for lung cancer care.  In addition, she has helped develop and validate a computer-based decision support system aimed at improving the management of patients with lung nodules.

Schultz joined CHP/PCOR in November 2005 after completing an MS in Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has previously studied media influences on adolescent smoking and pigment patterns in zebrafish.  She received a BA in biology and French from Washington University in St. Louis.
