Dr. Nayer Khazeni is a board certified internist and pulmonary/critical care physician. She completed her undergraduate studies in Literature and Biopsychology with honors at the University of California, San Diego. She received her medical degree from Georgetown University, completed internship and residency training in internal medicine at Northwestern University, and fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Yale University. She received a Master of Science degree in Health Services Research from Stanford University.
She conducts research with a multi-disciplinary team of investigators from Stanford's Department of Management Science and Engineering, Centers for Health Policy / Centers for Primary Care Outcomes Research, Division of Infectious Disease, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She is using decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, meta-analysis, and prognostic modeling to study prevention and mitigation strategies for seasonal and pandemic influenza.
In 2008, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality awarded her a two year National Research Service Award to investigate mitigation strategies for the next influenza pandemic.
Dr. Khazeni also writes frequently in the lay press on topics related to science and medicine, with publications in the San Francisco Chronicle, LA Weekly, and International Herald Tribune.
