New Stanford Center at Peking University
FSI Stanford NewsStanford University has announced the establishment of a new center at Peking University, one of China’s oldest and most distinguished universities, which will serve as a base for research, teaching, meetings and conferences. One of the first major centers created by a university on a Chinese campus, SCPKU represents a visionary commitment by Stanford and a group of alumni, parents and friends of the university worldwide. Stanford’s location on the Pacific Rim provides an advantage in fostering U.S. China relations and the new center will establish a strategic hub for Stanford’s work on a host of global issues. Global Underdevelopment Action Fund awards six grants to projects addressing global underdevelopment
FSI Stanford NewsThe Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) at Stanford University has awarded six Global Underdevelopment Action Fund grants for interdisciplinary research aimed at tackling persistent problems of global underdevelopment. The projects will focus on early-stage, multidisciplinary, and policy-relevant research, and are all required to have a training component for Stanford undergraduate or graduate students. Read more »

Law professor noted for public service to be appointed CISAC co-director
CISAC, FSI Stanford AnnouncementMariano-Florentino Cuéllar (MA '96, PhD '00), a lawyer, scholar, and former official in the Clinton and Obama administrations, will assume the position of co-director of the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) at the conclusion of the current academic year, FSI Director Coit Blacker and Law School Dean Larry Kramer have announced. Honors students explore challenges of policy implementation, assessment in Washington, D.C.
CISAC, CDDRL, FSI Stanford NewsIn September, honors students from FSI's two undergraduate honors programs - the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) and the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) - traveled to Washington, D.C., with their faculty advisors for senior-level policy briefings with U.S. government officials and major international organizations, NGOs, and think tanks. A highlight was a meeting at the National Security Council with two leading Stanford foreign policy experts serving in the current administration: Michael McFaul, President Obama's senior advisor on Russia; and Jeremy Weinstein, Director for Democracy on the National Security Council Staff.
