Hao Weimin is the vice president and secretary general of the China Association of Communication Enterprises and was a visiting fellow with CISAC's Project on Peace and Cooperation in the Asian-Pacific Region in 2004-2005. He has published articles on telecommunications networking, network planning, comprehensive analysis, satellite communication, and data communication, both in domestic and overseas academic publications.
As a principle senior engineer and professor, he is a member in the Science and Technology Standing Committee of Telecommunication in China's Ministry of Information Industry. He is also a member of the Consulting Experts Committee for Radio Frequency Planning of the Ministry of Information Industry. He has two positions in the Chinese Institute of Communications, both as a member in the Standing Committee and the Director of the Committee of Satellite Communications.
He has served as deputy director general and chief engineer of the Directorate General of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and vice-chairman and president of China Orient Telecomm Satellite Company, Ltd. He was a member in the joint meeting of National Economy Information under the State Council, and a member of the National Experts Leading Group for Telecommunications High-tech Research for the State 863 Program from 1992-1994. He was also a professor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and an instructor of graduate students. He was a member of the telecommunication specialist group of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee. He has received the "Special Subsidy for Outstanding Contributors" from the State Council since 1995.
Hao graduated from Zhangjiakou Telecommunications Institute of China in 1953 and from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 1963. Since then he has been working in the fields of posts and telecommunications in engineering and administration. From 1983 to 1986, he was sent to the United States as a visiting scholar to carry out telecommunication research at GTE Network Systems and Stanford University. He worked in the fields of technical administration, data communication, satellite communication, network planning and international communication upon returning to China from the United States.
