Helen Stacy - Senior Fellow at FSI
This initiative, initially funded by the Stanford Science and Humanities Center under the Presidential International Initiative, looks at the contribution by the humanities to global human rights debates. It offers three quarters of graduate and faculty workshops on human well-being and the environment. The Collaboratory highlights three areas of interest: environmental humanities, cultural heritage and humanitarian intervention in the inter-war years.
(i) Environmental Humanities, in conjunction with Professor Ursula K. Heise Professor of English Guggenheim Fellow 2011, President, Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (ASLE);
(ii) Cultural Heritage, in conjunction with Professor Lynn Meskell, Professor, Department of Anthropology; Director, Stanford Archaeology Center;
(iii) Humanitarian Intervention in the Inter-War Years, in collaboration with Associate Professor Dan Edelstein, Department of French and Italian and, by courtesy, of History; and Associate Professor James P. Daughton, Department of History.
In 2013, the Program on Human Rights wishes to continue to broaden a multidisciplinary awareness of human rights issues across the Stanford community through promoting human rights events, workshops and student activities in partnership with Stanford’s humanities departments.
