A consortium composed of Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin has applied to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for renewal of a three-year grant on international peace and cooperation.
The Consortium is an innovative interdisciplinary program of research and training in international peace and cooperation emphasizing change in global society. A significant portion of the grant is used to provide research assistantship and fellowship support for graduate students at the three universities; some fellowship funds may also be used for visiting scholars and practitioners. The program also provides inter-university seminars, workshops, and summer institutes. Faculty, students, and visiting scholars and practitioners are drawn from a number of disciplines, including anthropology, economics, education, engineering, history, law, political science, psychology, and sociology.
The Consortium focuses on four dimensions of change in global society. (Historical work that can illuminate these dimensions is eligible for funding):
- War and Peace in Historical Context
- Global Governance and Transnational Norms
- Environmental Sustainability and Social Justice
- Production, Performance, and Representation of Identities.
