Tom Fingar reports on earthquake from Santiago
in the news: Stanford News on March 1, 2010Tom Fingar, an alum and a fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, was in the Chilean capital of Santiago when the Feb. 27 earthquake struck. Fingar, former chairman of the National Intelligence Council, has spent winter quarter teaching Bing Overseas Studies Program students in Chile "Global Issues, Local Politics and American Foreign Policy" and "How to Analyze National Security Issues." Top Canadian Prize Goes to Stanford Scientist Lucy Shapiro for Bringing Cell Biology into Three Dimensions
in the news: Business Wire on March 31, 2009CISAC Executive Committee member Lucy Shapiro, who is the Virginia and D. K. Ludwig Professor of developmental biology at the School of Medicine, can add a Canada Gairdner International Award to her list of accolades. The award, which carries a $100,000 cash prize, will be announced on March 31, and formally presented in Canada in October.

Former CISAC fellow wins Carnegie award to study Islamist militancy
in the news: McGill Reporter on May 3, 2007Khalid Medani, a former CISAC visiting professor and fellow, is one of 21 Carnegie Scholars selected to receive a two-year grant beginning this fall. Medani will receive $100,000 to support his study of Islamist militancy and recruitment in Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia. The grant will enable him to conduct further research on the topic he studied as a CISAC visiting professor in 2005-2006. Read more »
