Examining the violence in Mexico
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsMore than 40,000 people have died in drug-related homicides in Mexico since 2006, and the violence is causing concern throughout the hemisphere. In an attempt to understand and develop potential solutions to these problems, a group of researchers, policy-makers, and military experts from around the world will visit Stanford this October for a private, two-day conference. Martha Crenshaw awarded $500,000 to study terrorist patterns
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsCrenshaw, a senior fellow at FSI's Center for International Security and Cooperation, has received a National Science Foundation grant to identify patterns in the evolution of terrorist organizations. "Mapping Terrorist Organizations" will be the first worldwide study to analyze terrorist groups and trace their relationships over time. Read more »

CISAC awards 14 honors certificates in international security studies
CISAC awarded honors certificates in international security studies to 14 undergraduates. Among them were award winners Brian Burton, who received a Firestone Medal for his thesis, "Counterinsurgency Principles and U.S. Military Effectiveness in Iraq," and Sherri Hansen, who received the William J. Perry Award for her thesis, "Explaining the Use of Child Soldiers." Read more »
