Transitions 2009 conference to focus on action plan for President-elect Obama
CISAC's Stephen Stedman, Bruce Jones from NYU and Carlos Pascual from the Brookings Institution will unveil a "plan for action" for President-elect Obama to tackle emerging transnational threats at FSI's annual conference Nov. 13. The plan is part of "Managing Global Insecurity," a project launched in 2007 that seeks to build international support for institutions and partnerships that can help foster peace and security for the next 50 years. CISAC awards 14 honors certificates in international security studies
CISAC awarded honors certificates in international security studies to 14 undergraduates. Among them were award winners Brian Burton, who received a Firestone Medal for his thesis, "Counterinsurgency Principles and U.S. Military Effectiveness in Iraq," and Sherri Hansen, who received the William J. Perry Award for her thesis, "Explaining the Use of Child Soldiers." Read more »

CISAC, CDDRL, FSI Stanford, PESD NewsMichael May, Michael McFaul, Scott Sagan, David Victor, and John Weyant talk to Stanford magazine for the November/December cover story on energy security. It's not our oil dependence that's the problem, say these scholars - it's our vulnerability to oil producers who use revenues for political purposes that work against our own. Read more »
