Examining the violence in Mexico
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsMore than 40,000 people have died in drug-related homicides in Mexico since 2006, and the violence is causing concern throughout the hemisphere. In an attempt to understand and develop potential solutions to these problems, a group of researchers, policy-makers, and military experts from around the world will visit Stanford this October for a private, two-day conference. Power & Responsibility book featured on Charlie Rose show
in the news: Charlie Rose on April 23, 2009Television interviewer Charlie Rose discussed the premise of "Power and Responsibility: Building International Order in an Era of Transnational Threats," a book coauthored by CISAC's Stephen Stedman, during a broadcast on April 23, 2009. Co-author Carlos Pascual of the Brookings Institution and Brent Scowcroft, former U.S. national security adviser who wrote the book's foreword, were interviewed.

Book offers new roadmap for tackling transnational threats
As fallout from accelerating climate change and the economic meltdown reveals, today's gravest threats are transnational, demanding unprecedented cooperation among competing nations to find lasting solutions. The policies and strategies developed for the balance-of-power rivalries of the 20th century no longer apply in this one, according to the authors of "Power & Responsibility," a book launched March 17 at Stanford.

Managing Global Insecurity project launches 'Plan for Action' in Washington, DC
