Martha Crenshaw awarded $500,000 to study terrorist patterns
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsCrenshaw, a senior fellow at FSI's Center for International Security and Cooperation, has received a National Science Foundation grant to identify patterns in the evolution of terrorist organizations. "Mapping Terrorist Organizations" will be the first worldwide study to analyze terrorist groups and trace their relationships over time. Read more »

Iraq now - headed for civil war or already there?
Op-ed: Time magazine on February 26, 2006Is civil war likely to break out in Iraq? It already has, according to CISAC faculty member James D. Fearon, a political science professor who studies recent civil wars. "By any reasonable definition," Fearon said, "there has been a civil war in progress in Iraq at least since the Coalition Provisional Authority formally handed over authority to the Iraqis in 2004." Three CISAC honors students win prestigious scholarships
Three of CISAC's undergraduate honors students are among Stanford's handful of winners of prestigious scholarships for 2005-2006. Senior Sheena Chestnut and 2002 graduate Tarun Chhabra, both Phi Beta Kappa members, are among five Stanford students selected for 2005 Marshall Scholarships. Alex Greninger, a 2003 graduate of CISAC's honors program, is one of two Stanford graduates named as George J. Mitchell Scholars. Read more »
