Examining the violence in Mexico
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsMore than 40,000 people have died in drug-related homicides in Mexico since 2006, and the violence is causing concern throughout the hemisphere. In an attempt to understand and develop potential solutions to these problems, a group of researchers, policy-makers, and military experts from around the world will visit Stanford this October for a private, two-day conference. CISAC honors student awarded for "exceptional, tangible" intellectual achievement
CISAC, FSI Stanford AnnouncementTen undergraduates recently received the 2011 Deans' Award for Academic Accomplishment, which honors extraordinary undergraduate students for "exceptional, tangible" intellectual achievements. Among them: CISAC honors student Anand Habib, a senior majoring in biology with honors in international security studies. He is completing an honors thesis focusing on health governance.

CISAC's Steve Stedman and Bruce Jones host Hillary Clinton for national security strategy discussion
CISAC, FSI Stanford NewsSecretary of State Clinton spoke at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. May 27 on the administration's first National Security Strategy, a report submitted to Congress by each President to outline the intended U.S. response to major national security concerns. The Managing Global Insecurity project, led by CISAC's Stephen Stedman and Bruce Jones, helped organize the event. Read more »

CISAC awards certificates in international security studies to 12 seniors
in the newsCISAC conferred honors certificates to 12 undergraduates at a ceremony held under a sprawling oak tree outside Encina Hall on Friday, June 12. Students included Jane Esberg, who was awarded the Firestone Medal for her thesis on Regimes of Terror: The Relationship between Democracy and Terrorism in Chile and Sarah Catanzaro, who received the William J. Perry Prize for her research on Bin Laden's Henchmen: Al Qa'ida's Commanding Officers who are Leading the Global Jihad. The students were participants in CISAC's year-long Interschool Honors Program in International Security Studies. Read more »
